A HIGH COURT judge yesterday found that the HSE, the National Maternity Hospital in Holles Street and a doctor were “grossly inept” in their treatment of a girl who suffered brain damage because of hydrocephalus, and ruled each should pay one third of the €4.75 million award previously made to the child.

THE High Court has approved a €4.75 million award to young girl who suffered “devastating and permanent injuries” due to an alleged failure to treat her hydrocephalus, or water on the brain, in the weeks and months after she was born.

The High Court has heard that a young girl suffered "devastating and permanent injuries" as a result of an alleged failure to recognise that she had developed water on the brain in the weeks and months shortly after she was born.
