THE father of 16-year-old Ciara Gibbs shed tears yesterday as an inquest heard evidence of how she died as a result of drowning at the family’s home in Co Kilkenny.

THE last time Gerard Gibbs spoke to his wife was a few hours before she killed their daughter, when she rang to ask how to make the automated security gates at their home stay open as she was expecting a friend to call.

A KILKENNY psychiatrist who drowned her daughter in the bath should not be held responsible for the killing because she was suffering from a significant depressive disorder that led her to think she was helping her daughter escape a hopeless life ruled by anorexia nervosa, a court has heard.

A POST MORTEM examination was conducted yesterday on 16-year-old Ciara Gibbs, the schoolgirl who was found dead next to her unconscious mother in their family home in Co Kilkenny on Sunday.
