IRISH athletics is on the brink of unprecedented levels of funding, with Irish Sports Council (ISC) chairman Ossie Kilkenny telling yesterday’s Athletics Association of Ireland (AAI) congress that the ISC is ready to respond to all objective approaches for aid now that new structures have been put in place.

MICHAEL QUINLAN, one of the longest serving members of the executive of the Athletic Association of Ireland (AAI), could become a casualty of the new structure that has been put in place to govern the sport when the chairs of the new committees are elected at next weekend’s annual congress in Limerick Junction.

MARK CARROLL will welcome the news that the AAI have decided to try to persuade the Olympic Council of Ireland to abandon their July 3 deadline for Olympic qualification.
