Nostalgia ruled at The Everyman theatre last night as it celebrated its 120th birthday and those attending the commemoration recalled the giant names in entertainment who trod the boards there, including Charlie Chaplin and George Formby.

Modern highbrow comedians may have third level qualifications, but unfortunately they have lost the art of extracting spontaneous laughter from an audience. Or could it be possible people no longer laugh as much?

IF you thought the ukulele was an outdated musical instrument associated with eccentric ditties like George Formby’s When I’m Cleaning Windows or Tiny Tim’s Tiptoe Through The Tulips, a group of West Cork musicians aim to completely debunk the notion.

A collection of unseen photos of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, George Formby’s banjoleles and Elton John’s piano will all go under the hammer today.
