LIBERIAN President Charles Taylor said he is reconsidering his promise to cede power, as rebels seeking to oust him declared a new cease-fire yesterday.

Liberia’s biggest rebel group called yet another ceasefire today, but insisted they would maintain the siege of the capital Monrovia until peace troops arrive.

MORTAR rounds pounded homes in Liberia’s rebel-besieged capital, killing at least 14 people, while the US ambassador appealed yesterday to insurgents to withdraw from the bloodied city and reopen its port for desperately needed food and aid.
