New legislation is being introduced in England and Wales from today, which will give people the right to ask police if their partner has a history of domestic violence.

A father whose daughter was murdered by an ex-boyfriend with a secret violent past said he was “absolutely delighted” women across the country have now been given the “right to know” their partner’s history.
