A man is recovering after a vicious assault in Co Kildare in which he was forced to eat part of his ear after it was cut off.

A young Dublin man with no previous convictions has been given a seven-year sentence with two suspended for possessing nearly €4m of heroin in his car.

A Thurles man has been jailed for three years by Mr Justice Paul Carney at the Central Criminal Court for an aggravated sexual assault on a prostitute in Cork city in June 2000.
