A drug addict who committed a string of violent post office robberies in which put knives to customer’s throats and made off with thousands of euro has been jailed for 13 years by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

A drug addict stabbed a now retired garda who confronted him with a chair when he robbed a post-office but was then stopped and held with the aid of two members of the public, Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard.

A Romanian man who savagely slashed his ex-girlfriend's face in what was described as "a Transylvanian horror story worthy of the pages of Bram Stoker" has been jailed for five years by Judge Frank O'Donnell at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
