A young man threatened to smash up his grandfather’s house and gardaí arrived to find the pensioner visibly shaken and in fear.

Armed gardaí rushed to Blarney St, in Cork City, when it was reported that a man was brandishing a firearm. They saw the armed man hide behind a parked car.

A garda following up a tip about a man carrying a knife down the waistband of his pants yesterday said the man claimed he had it for cutting potatoes.
