A leading member of a gang on the north side of Cork city who call themselves ‘Farranree Joyriders’ was jailed for 12 months today.

A mother and child escaped through the back window of their home when a wheelie bin was set on fire beside their front door, it was claimed yesterday.

Two men who were convicted of breaking into a flat over a post office claimed that they were motivated by concern for the owner whom they feared was dead.
