A Garda acquitted of assaulting a teenager will not be the subject of a fresh investigation into the incident by the Garda Ombudsman, the High Court has heard.

Rank-and-file gardaí are demanding the garda watchdog make a full apology to two of their colleagues who were charged with causing harm to a violent youth they were forced to subdue with pepper spray — and then had the charges against them dismissed.

The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission has served disciplinary papers on one of the gardaí who were cleared in court of wrongdoing after they used pepper spray to subdue a violent youth.

Two members of An Garda Síochána appeared in Cork District Court yesterday charged with assault causing harm to a 16-year-old boy.
