Limerick Golf Club may have their own battles ahead in the AIG Senior Cup today at Carton House but one of their sons left Kildare yesterday with an All Ireland winners’ medal following Ballybunion’s AIG Junior Cup victory.

Ballybunion moved a step closer to regaining the AIG Junior Cup for the first time since 2013 but it needed a 20th hole victory in the defining singles match at Carton House to edge their semi-final against Loughrea.

Ballybunion ended a 34-year national title drought yesterday when its all-teenage team lifted the Junior Cup on day two of the AIG All-Ireland Cups & Shields National Finals at Royal Tara Golf Club.
