A commuter boat carrying more than 100 passengers has flipped and sunk in north-east Brazil, killing at least 18 people and leaving dozens missing in rough ocean waters.

Brazilian protesters and police clashed near a stadium hosting a football match, as thousands of demonstrators trying to march on the site were met by tear gas and rubber bullets.
