DERVAL O’ROURKE set another new national under-23 record and continued progress towards world championship and Olympic qualification standard when she finished third in the 100m hurdles in 13.19 seconds at the European Cup match in Finland yesterday.

PATRICK JOHNSON, whose father emigrated to Australia from Carlow in 1952 has become the first athlete from his country to break 10 seconds for 100m.

JER O’DONOGHUE (Leevale) once again highlighted his liking for the Nenagh Indoor Arena with another sparkling performance in the 60m at the Munster indoor championships yesterday, clipping six hundredths of a second off the time he ran at the AAI Games a week earlier.
