Mobile phone giant, Motorola, has reported record sales and earnings for the third quarter.

Motorola, which employs more than 500 people in Cork, has announced record second-quarter sales and earnings. Sales were up 17% to $8.83bn (€7.35), compared to second-quarter 2004 sales of $7.54bn (€6.28).

COMMUNICATIONS giant Motorola yesterday reported sales of $8.624 billion in the third quarter of 2004. This is a 26% increase from sales of $6.829 billion in the third quarter of 2003.

Motorola has named Ed Zander, former president and second-in-command at Sun Microsystems, to be its new chairman and CEO, replacing Chris Galvin.

Blue chip stocks rose on Wall Street today - giving the Dow Jones industrials their first two-day advance in nearly a month - as investors again searched for bargains after weeks of declines.
