A Co Cork chef charged with IRA membership was found in possession of a Daz washing powder box containing over €94,000 by gardaí investigating the funding of illegal organisations, the Special Criminal Court heard today.

The Special Criminal Court today rejected defence submissions that five Dublin men arrested in Bray and later charged with IRA membership had been unlawfully arrested and detained.

Colm Murphy, whose conviction for an offence connected with the Omagh bombing in 1998 was quashed by the Court of Criminal Appeal last week, remained in custody today after a technical hitch held up his expected release on bail.
