BODIES lay in growing piles outside mortuaries yesterday as United Nations peacekeepers planned the first major distribution of food and water in Haiti.

Bodies remained in the streets and in growing piles outside morgues in a Haitian city that has been devastated by floods that have torn apart families and left hungry crowds mobbing truckloads of aid.

At least 622 people have now been killed by Tropical Storm Jeanne in Haiti, and officials expect to find many more bodies.
