Sydney’s spring racing carnival will not go ahead after eight racehorses in the state tested positive for equine influenza.

Kieren Fallon will be able to ride Yeats in the Emirates Melbourne Cup on Tuesday week despite picking up a 10-day ban for a riding offence at Moonee Valley.

Frankie Dettori, who will be crowned champion jockey at Doncaster on Saturday, picked up a one-month ban after pleading guilty to careless riding in the Melbourne Cup.
