A former Marist brother and primary school teacher who was convicted of 35 charges of sexual abuse against four young boys at a Sligo school over 40 years ago has received a 12-month sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

A jury has heard that a former Marist brother denied all allegations of sexual abuse that had been laid against him by five past pupils when gardaí questioned him about the incidents over ten years ago.

The jury in the Melissa Mahon murder trial has heard that when interviewed Ronald McManus told gardaí “I’ve been waiting some time for this”.

A former garda accused of intimidating a man wrongly arrested for murder failed to appear to give evidence at the Morris Tribunal today.
