It is up to the Director of Public Prosecutions to decide whether to appeal three-month jail terms handed down to two men who kicked a librarian to within an inch of his life, Justice Minister Michael McDowell said today.

Two men who assaulted a librarian on Grafton Street in Dublin were today sent to prison for three months.

An orthopaedic surgeon told a Dublin Circuit Criminal Court jury that a Sligo man was very lucky to survive an alleged assault on him with the few side effects he experienced.
