Thousands of poultry died of bird flu in the past two weeks in southern Vietnam, the government said today, in the country’s first reported outbreak in a year.

A gas well accident in which 233 people died was due to negligence and those responsible “will be dealt with”, a Chinese safety official said today.

The Chinese government today promised things would get better after a month that saw more than 200 people die in workplace accidents.
