Uganda's government does not support a politician's decision to reintroduce a Bill that originally proposed the death penalty for some homosexual acts, the government said in responding to renewed criticism by rights activists who oppose the Bill.

A proposed new law would impose the death penalty on some gay Ugandans and their family and friends could face up to seven years in jail if they fail to report them to authorities.
