TOP seed and two-time champion Andre Agassi crushed Spain’s Alex Corretja 6-1 6-2 6-2 in the opening round of the US Open at Flushing Meadows.

Sixth seed Jennifer Capriati, who has emerged as one of the favourites in the absence of injured sisters Serena and Venus Williams, cruised into the second round of the US Open with a 35-minute destruction of Spain’s Cristina Torrens Valero, 6-0 6-1.

Third-seed Justine Henin of Belgium came from a set down to beat Maja Matevzic 5-7 6-4 6-4 in the second round of the Pacific Life Open.
