THOUSANDS of Irish people could be spared surgery for bowel disease because of a significant breakthrough by a team of scientists from University College Dublin and Trinity College Dublin.

Experts at one of the country’s leading scientific research centres believe they have discovered a cure for the chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), it was revealed today.
