THE Dublin passport office witnessed more chaotic scenes yesterday with a frustrated customer chaining himself to a door inside the office demanding a passport to travel to his brother’s wedding in Thailand.

Passport services could be shifted to another department or even outsourced to private operators as the applications backlog smashed the 50,000 barrier, top Government officials warned today.
