ATHLETICS action at the weekend centred on the 46th running of the KitKat Tailteann Schools’ Interprovincial Championships in Santry on Saturday and the Woodie’s DIY Junior and U23 Track and Field Championships yesterday in Tullamore.

NIALL TUOHY (Newtown School) provided the upset of the meet when he fought back in the finishing straight to edge out his training partner, David McCarthy (St Augustine’s, Dungarvan) in the senior boys’ 800m at the KitKat Munster Schools track and field championships at UL.

DAVID McCARTHY (St. Augustine’s, Dungarvan) will defend his 800m title and attempt a double-up at 1,500m at the KitKat Munster Schools track and field championships at the UL Track in Plassey tomorrow.
