A frightening new aftershock in Haiti forced more earthquake survivors on to the capital’s streets and sent others fleeing to the countryside, where aid was only beginning to reach wrecked towns.

MY response to Patrick Dolan’s question (Letters, January 18) concerning who will be of the most benefit to Haiti quake victims — “the trained killers or the trained curers” — is one of incredulity.

DESPERATELY needed aid from around the world began arriving yesterday in quake-stunned Haiti, while rescuers struggled frantically to save the trapped and injured, using pickup trucks as ambulances and doors as stretchers.
