Hundreds of people observed four and a half minutes of silence yesterday to mark one year since 18-year-old Michael Brown was shot dead by a US police officer in Ferguson, Missouri.

The US National Guard has begun withdrawing from Ferguson, where there has been unrest since a white police officer fatally shot an unarmed black 18-year-old nearly two weeks ago.
