I REFER to an opinion piece published in The Financial Times (April 12) submitted by an ECB official, Lorenzo Bini Smaghi, in which he effectively admonishes Irish taxpayers, “Pay Up and Stop Whining”.

AS someone watching from afar who has close ties with Ireland, I cannot believe the number of writers who contend that bondholders are somehow responsible for Ireland’s banking problem or indeed Ireland’s national debt.
