A DARING rescue involving a flying boat that ditched in the Atlantic 62 years ago was recalled last night in Foynes when a week-long celebration commenced to mark the town’s role in transatlantic aviation.

The Foynes Flying Boat Museum’s reconstruction of a control tower, from the days when the Co Limerick village was a key transatlantic aviation hub, took off yesterday.

WORK will begin today to complete an aviation landmark in the port village of Foynes.
