ALLIED Irish Bank’s (AIB) attitude towards former property developer Tom Gilmartin in the early 1990s “appeared most irregular”, a British commercial property consultant told the Mahon Tribunal yesterday.

TOM Gilmartin’s aim to transform the Quarryvale site into a major retail development on the fringes of Dublin was described to the Mahon Tribunal yesterday as over-ambitious given the country’s economic state in the late 1980s.

DEVELOPER Tom Gilmartin — who alleges falling foul of political corruption when he tried to set up a west Dublin project in the early 1990s — was an honourable and truthful man, the Mahon Planning Tribunal heard yesterday.

LABOUR TD Joan Burton believed “something improper” was going on between developers and some of her Dublin County Council colleagues in the early 1990s, she told the Mahon Tribunal yesterday.
