Suicide attackers stormed a British compound in the Afghan capital Kabul today, killing at least eight people in a series of explosions and more than eight-hour gunfight.

A suicide bomber wearing an Afghan army uniform set off a huge explosion early today while trying to board a military bus in Kabul, killing 30 people and wounding 30, officials said. The Taliban claimed responsibility.

When Taliban militant Syed Azizullah died during fighting in southern Afghanistan, his body was sent to his native Pakistan where a provincial official gave a eulogy before hundreds of Pashtun tribesmen. A flag of the Islamist militia fluttered by the grave.
