PROSECUTORS yesterday indicted 86 secular Turks — including high-ranking ex-military officials — on terrorism charges for their alleged involvement in plots to topple the Islamic-rooted government.

Turkey's chief prosecutor today announced charges against 86 people accused of plotting to topple the government.

Armed men opened fire today on Turkish police guarding the front entrance to the US consulate in Istanbul, killing three policemen in what Turkish and US officials called a terrorist attack. Three assailants were also reported killed.
