The UN secretary-general has urged Burma’s military government and its main pro-democracy party to reach an agreement under which the opposition party – led by Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi – will attend a constitution-drafting convention.

Burma’s pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi and three of her top supporters completed six months in detention today with no sign of when they might be freed, despite international calls for their release.

The Burmese military government brought detained pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi to the capital Yangon today after it also closed the offices of her party, held key supporters and ordered universities shut across Myanmar.
