A bridge collapsed today under the weight of thousands of hungry cyclone victims stampeding toward a relief centre in south-western Bangladesh, and officials said at least one person died and 100 were injured.

The White House offered condolences today to victims of the deadly cyclone in Bangladesh and said the government had provided an initial $2.1m (€1.4m) in emergency aid.
