Charlie Chaplin may have been the quintessential English movie star, but his exotic dark looks and legendary performing genes could be thanks to his great grandmother, who was a gypsy from Cork.

THE first annual Charlie Chaplin Comedy Film Festival this week in Waterville will reveal the great film-maker’s secrets for catching the best sea trout, as well as honouring his humour, organisers said yesterday.
