EU's Trade Commissioner and former Fine Gael minister Phil Hogan is considering putting his name in for consideration.

Hogan has been a European commissioner since 2014, initially responsible for agriculture and since late 2019 for trade.

The coronavirus has infected almost 5.5m people across the world and killed more than 346,000, according to a tally kept by Johns Hopkins University.
