Sustainable transport campaigners have called for a major extension to one of the country’s most successful public bike schemes.

The former minister Mary O’Rourke is likely to find herself back on the campaign trail after her son, Aengus O’Rourke, was chosen by Fianna Fáil to contest a Dáil seat in next month’s by-election in Longford-Westmeath.

Fianna Fáil is hopeful of winning a seat in the Dublin West by-election after 27-year-old teacher and local councillor David McGuinness was chosen as its candidate.
