A week ago, on a slightly rainy Sunday evening, the sad news broke that the great Canadian writer, Alistair MacLeod, had died.

TWO Irish authors are on the shortlist for the biggest books prize in the world, the IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, it was announced yesterday.

More than 120 books have been nominated for the IR£79,000 annual IMPAC Dublin International Literary Award.
