Sudan’s foreign ministry today dismissed UN scepticism over the slow pace of an international solution for Darfur, saying that authorities in Sudan felt there were “no ambiguities” on how the crisis should be solved.

The African Union today chose Ghana to head the 53-member bloc, for the second year in a row – turning aside Sudan’s bid because of the Darfur crisis.

Sudan braced for a diplomatic showdown today as the government confirmed it intended to secure the chairmanship of the African Union.
