IRAQ'S US administrator began a 100-day countdown to Iraqi sovereignty yesterday by hailing progress since Saddam Hussein's removal, but fresh violence underlined the country's instability.

Israeli soldiers today killed three Palestinians, including two armed Hamas fighters, and troops also destroyed 16 shacks, leaving more than 200 people homeless in confrontations in the Gaza Strip.
