THE United States government admitted there was no proof to back Zacarias Moussaoui’s dramatic courtroom confession that he was to have been a key player in the September 11 attacks.

Zacarias Moussaoui, the first person convicted in a US court over the 9/11 terror attacks, is facing the death penalty after admitting his part in the plot.

Zacarias Moussaoui pleaded guilty today to helping al-Qaida carry out the September 11 hijackings and said he understood he could be put to death for his role in the deadliest terror attack in US history.
