US troops have arrested a representative of anti-American cleric Muqtada al-Sadr as he attended a meeting of tribal leaders at a hotel in Baghdad yesterday.

At least 3,240 civilians died in Iraq during a month of war, including 1,896 in Baghdad, according to a five-week investigation by the Associated Press.
