DESPITE a highly publicised road safety campaign, there was a sad start to the new year for three families across the country as three young people lost their lives in road accidents in the first few hours of 2005.

Dublin City Council was tonight urged to review the lay-out of pedestrian crossings along the quays in the capital after a 72-year-old woman died after being hit by a truck.

THE National Safety Council is disappointed its grim prediction that more people would be killed on the roads in 2004 than in 2003 has come true.
