Eli Lilly reported asecond-quarter profit that was boosted by higher sales for the antidepressant Cymbalta, which helped trim losses from generic competition to its former top-seller, Zyprexa.

Eli Lilly & chief executive John Lechleiter said rising sales of the antidepressant Cymbalta and animal drugs stemmed losses from generic competition, helping the company’s earnings beat estimates.

Higher sales of depression and diabetes medicines has helped Eli Lilly & Co to counter a 44% plunge in revenue from schizophrenia drug Zyprexa.

An HIV drug has been recalled because “human error” led to a higher than normal level of a chemical which can cause cancer, its makers said.
