Two fishermen were cleared yesterday of charges to bring illegal migrant workers into Ireland to work on trawlers in what the State claimed was a “calculated scam”.

Two men went on trial at Cork District Court yesterday on charges arising from an investigation of alleged use of illegal migrant workers in the fishing industry.

THE chairman of the board of a kitchen and bathroom supply company has denied claims of carrying on the company’s business in a reckless manner and has claimed he too was a victim of a “fraud” allegedly perpetrated on the company by its chief executive and chief operating officer.
