Limerick is a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Dublin, yet we heard on a Sunday afternoon, and again on Monday, mid-morning, and at 3pm, on the news bulletin, that a minister was travelling to the city, to personally inspect the flood damage.

IT seems the powers-that-be will do whatever they can to reintroduce fees for third-level colleges. All this in a country where one can vote and get married at 18 and drive a car at 17. Of course children’s allowance ceases also at 18.

IN response to your editorial (‘Speed kills, so slow down’, February 5), I find the views expressed lacking in thought and, unfortunately, all too similar to the rhetoric we hear from various campaigners like Gay Byrne.

IN VIEW of the proposed motor tax increases, I wonder if Environment Minister John Gormley is living in the real world.
