Irish judges are breaching human rights laws by forcing separated fathers on state benefits to make punishing child-maintenance payments, a parental rights advocacy group has claimed.

Government proposals to overhaul the family law system have been welcomed by legal experts and family groups.

The Supreme Court has ruled that the system by which a spouse can get a temporary barring order without informing his or her partner is in breach of the Irish Constitution.
