Ukraine’s feuding president and prime minister today agreed on a date for an early parliamentary election.

Pressure today grew on Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko to revive the divided Orange Revolution team as election returns showed combined support for their pro-Western reformist parties outpacing that of the pro-Russian opposition leader.

The head of Ukraine’s Central Bank resigned today, and media reports quoted him as praising opposition protests and calling for at least a partial re-ballot in the country’s disputed election.

Ukraine’s two rivals for power failed in nearly three hours of talks to resolve the political stalemate over who will lead the bitterly-divided nation.
