Global lenders’ negotiations with Greece, which have been moving at a crawl recently, have gained some momentum but remained a long way from the finish line, the IMF’s European head has said.

Nikolaos Makarezos, one of the leaders of the military dictatorship that ruled Greece from 1967-1974, has died at 90.

Greece’s top Olympic official said the country had failed to capitalise on the summer Olympics and attract foreign tourists to the capital Athens, where she said there was “no international Olympic atmosphere”.
